Following the success of the first Emergency Community Healthcare Training Course for Gawad Kalinga healthcare volunteers last November 15 and 16, 2008, the Philippine Heart Association Sub-Committee on Community Service led by former PHA President Dr. Noe Babilonia, and current PHA Director Dr. Joel Abanilla, in partnership with the Give KARE Health Foundation, conducted a 2nd PHA-GKare Emergency Community Healthcare Training Course for 36 participants, all GKare health workers from different Quezon City sectors, last February 21, 2009, at the Avenilo Aventura Hall of the Philippine Heart Center. Dr. Ramon Ribu talked on Anatomy and Physiology, and Management of Burns and Electrocution. Lectures on Diarrhea, Dehydration and Fever Management, and Management of Convulsions were delivered by Drs.Ma Ina Bunyi and Glenda Tubianosa, respectively. Dr. Eduardo Tin Hay instructed the attendees on the emergency treatment of Loss of Consciousness, Shock, Drowning, Near Drowning and Poisoning, while Dr. Emmanuel Jarcia discussed on Fracture, Dog Bites and Wound Management. The basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) lecture and demonstration was conducted in the afternoon by Dr. Gerard Razon, assisted by CPR trainor Mr. Ronald Grande. Workshop and Practical Examinations were facilitated by Drs. Regidor Encabo, Ribu, Bunyi, Tubianosa and Abanilla. Most of the lectures and slides were given in a lay-friendly manner and delivered in Filipino. The course was conducted in partnership with Boehringer Ingelheim, Philippines. The next course will be held on May 9, 2009. |
