PHA and ASMPH enter into a community-based partnership

Pasig City, January 30, 2017 – The Philippine Heart Association (PHA) and the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health (ASMPH) joined forces to conduct a five-year community service project in Payatas, Quezon City. Both parties will collaborate in the promotion of heart health, conduct researches related to community cardiovascular health; as well as collaborate and contribute their resources, manpower and expertise on this effort.

The partnership was sealed by ASMPH Dean Dr. Manuel Dayrit, former Health Secretary; President Dr. Raul Lapitan and Director Dr. Jude Erric Cinco, at the former’s ASMPH office on the ground floor of the ASMPH Compound, Don Eugenio Lopez Sr., Medical Complex, Ortigas Ave., Pasig City. The agreement- inking was witnessed by Roaa Quiambao from ASMPH and Gynna Gagelonia and Maureen Gonzales from PHA.

As stipulated in the agreement, the collaboration shall be effective from Feb. 1, 2017 to Jan. 31, 2022.

The PHA shall provide free training and certification of basic life support for ASMPH’s faculty and students, free training sessions on BLS for the interested members of the Payatas community and funding for
PHA-initiated community based researches related to cardiovascular health, to be conducted by ASMPH students, taking into consideration the focus, method and budgetary constraints for each research.

ASMPH, one of the most reputable institutions in the country, will provide the public health experts and medical interns necessary to administer the collection of data required in the completion of the studies; as well as initiate and conduct informative or educational activities that promote awareness of cardiovascular health in the community, among other things.

One of the goals of the 64-year-old PHA, the most elite cardiac society, is to promote the acquisition of knowledge/information on recent advances in cardiology and their application for the benefit of cardiovascular patients and the public.

The launching of the project will be on ASMPH’s 10th Founding anniversary this year.
